It is important to seek funding as soon as the school year starts before the student senate gives away all of the student activity funds. You can ask student groups to request funding from the student senate. We are happy to help you navigate your schools bureaucracy. Many clubs like Amnesty International, SDS, Student PIRG, the Progressive Student Alliance, National Lawyers Guild, Anti-Sweatshop campaigns, Oxfam, Student Peace Action as well as animal rights clubs, and campus vegan and vegetarian societies have co-hosted the presentation. These clubs will join together each requesting $500 or more to provide transportation, housing and a speakers fee.
It is also possible to ask the chair persons of social science departments, environmental studies, history, political science, law and many other Food Not Bombs related subjects for funding. Department heads can donate aout $300 for a guest speaker to talk to their students.
Many schools donate around $1,500 with several student groups each pitching in $500 or more from their yearly budget. Several student senates have provided as much as $3,000 for the presentation. It would be wondeful if you were able to raise even more so see what you can do. Contrast these modest fees to those requested by Republican student groups which are often as much as $20,000 to $35,000 per speaker. (See links below) Your student senate will not be surprised if your club requests a few thousand dollars as they provide thousands more to bring in far right speakers.
We have a small advisory group to help determine where the funds should go. A small amount supports the office that is focused on supporting the creation of new Food Not Bombs chapters paying for the phone, web hosting, some transportation, printing and such.
The
presentation is free to all Food Not Bombs groups. Consider bringing the
tour to your school and at the same time contacting your local Food Not
Bombs group other community group to organize a free presentation off
campus.
Please consider inviting Mr.
McHenry to speak to your community. Speaking fees are reasonable and
donated to Food Not Bombs. Your community will find Keith's message
hopeful, motivating and full of useful information sure to be an
inspiration to everyone. Schools have provided honrariums from $500 to
several thousand which Keith donates to Food Not Bombs. To schedule your
presentation call us at 575-770-3377 or email us at menu@foodnotbombs.net to make
