Food Not Bombs remembers our volunteers Helen Hill, Timur Kacharava and Eric Weinberger who have died recently.

HELEN HILL
Food Not Bombs volunteer Helen Hill was shot to death in her home in New Orleans on January 4, 2007. Her husband Dr. Paul Gailiunas, was injured in the shooting. Police found Paul kneeling at the front door of their home clutching the couple's two-year-old son in his arms. Their son wasn't hurt.
Helen was a dear friend to the Food Not Bombs community. She helped start Halifax Food Not Bombs and when her family moved to New Orleans they volunteered with Food Not Bombs in the Big Easy. Their phone is the contact for New Orleans Food Not Bombs group.

ERIC WEINBERGER
Eric Weinberger died peacefully in Boston, Massachusetts on December 15, 2006. Eric was dedicated to Food Not Bombs for over two decades. He not only cooked and shared food with the hungry of Boston but Eric also taught the Food Not Bombs community about non-violent social change. He participated in the Food Not Bombs kitchen at the Nevada Test Site in 1988. He also participated in the first Food Not Bombs gathering in 1992. Howard Zinn writes about Eric in the Forward to the Food Not Bombs book. Eric Weinberger has been an important figure in America's peace and social justice movement for the past half century. We will miss him!

TIMUR KACHARAVA
Timur Kacharava of St. Petersburg, Russia's Sandinista! was tragically murdered by a group of Nazis on November 13th. The vocalist and activist was involved with Food Not Bombs and was killed after leaving an action in Vladimirskaya Square. His friend Max "gibov"Zgibai was also attacked and has been hospitalized with serious injuries. Both were active anarchist organizers who volunteered at the Epicenter Infoshop and were members of St. Petersburg Food Not Bombs. Violent neo-Nazi skinheads are common throughout Western Europe, and frequently target immigrants, homosexuals, anarchists, and radical leftists. Timur was a founding member of the St. Petersburg political hardcore punk band Sandinista! which formed in 2003. He was the musical leader, writing most of the music and playing lead guitar. In the Summer of 2005 Timur also joined the local d-beat hardcore band Distress. He returned to St. Petersburg from a Scandinavian tour with Distress just a few days before being murdered. Our deepest condolences go out to Timur's family, bandmates and friends.
