CONTACTS FOR FOOD NOT BOMBS GROUPS IN AFRICA

Food Not Bombs is actively working to improve the living conditions for people all across Africa. This is an all volunteer movement dedicated to nonviolence and the creation of independent chapters that make decisions using Formal Consensus and provide food and direct assistance to local communities. Food Not Bombs has no formal leaders and strives to include everyone in its decision making process. This method of organization encourages strong local participation and dedication to finding nonviolent solutions to local social problems. Food Not Bombs volunteers are already providing food in more than ten communities in Nigeria. They are connected to a global network of Food Not Bombs activists that are experienced in providing food to the hungry and are knowledgeable about organizing nonviolent social change. Each Food Not Bombs chapter seeks to cooperate with the other Non Governmental Organization (NGO), civic organizations and government leaders in their community.

Food Not Bombs is provided the funding for our first fields of rice at a farm in Ekiti State, South Western Nigeria. In the next few months we will start several more Food Not Bombs groups in Nigeria with the intention of creating a strong movement capable of involving Africans in the process of ending hunger, providing alternative sources of electricity, effective measures to provide healthcare, and safety. Food Not Bombs can help transform Nigerian society. This September we will hold The 2006 African Conference on Formal Consensus and Nonviolent Social Change in Lagos where we will meet to discuss the future of Food Not Bombs Food Not Bombs is growing in West Africa. It is an exciting time where students are working hard to build a strong grassroots movement dedicated to nonviolent solutions to social problems and striving to build democratic organizations using the nonhierarchical approach called Formal Consensus. Since Food Not Bombs co-founder Keith McHenry first visited Nigeria in October 2005 new chapters are cooking and sharing food and ideas in Ibadan, Owerri, Jos, Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Calabar and in many other communities. Food Not Bombs is not your typical Non Governmental Organization (NGO) but is a local self directed movement organized by Africans to provide solutions for Africans. The Food Not Bombs movement is starting in Africa at an exciting time where new ideas travel quickly, citizens are writing innovative national constitutions and many democratic institutions are emerging. You can support this exciting new era by making a contribution to help us pay for seeds, cooking equipment, transportation and the 2006 African Conference on Formal Consensus and Nonviolent Social Change.

You are invited to join Food Not Bombs in our work to make Africa's future bright.
