Cooking for the Occupations - A presentation on the campaign to end the criminalization
of poverty and how you can participate in the global protest movement
against austerity!
Everyone is invite to this inspiring presentation by Food Not Bombs
co-founder Keith McHenry and view a video about the Food Not Bombs
movement in Africa
Most people would elect to
end hunger and poverty but many of the people running for office have
another agenda, cutting social services while transferring our tax
dollars to wealthy military contractors and their corporate friends.
While elected officials cut social services like unemployment insurance,
food stamps, education, health care and other basic necessities they
are also passing laws against the poor and their supporters. Food Not
Bombs is responding to this crisis by recovering,
preparing and sharing vegan meals and groceries with the hungry in
nearly 1,000 communities. This presentation will inspire you and your
friends to join the Food Not Bombs movement and help our dedicated
volunteers organize, implement and feed the global campaign to end
hunger and poverty. You can make a difference!
Artist, author and activist Keith McHenry has been feeding the hungry
for over 30 years and traveled all over the world speaking at colleges
and conferences about Food Not Bombs and solutions to our social
problems. Keith is excited to meet you and share his experiences.

Follow the format above to make your public service
announcement or PSA. Email the public service announcement to the local
newspapers, radio and TV stations. Follow up with a phone call and ask
them if they would be interested in interviewing members of your group
and let them know Keith McHenry would also be happy to speak on their
program or do an interview by phone. Student papers and radio stations
are a great way to reach your classmates. You can also contact media
organizations off campus. You may want to email your PSA to other
organizations that might support the event. If you have any student
email lists send them the PSA as well. Notice that we end our PSA with ### so the media knows that the text is finished.
One effective way to announce the presentation is by
posting flyers all over campus and throughout the community. You can
download our flyer and add the time, date, location and co-sponsors or
you are welcome to use our images and make your own poster. Some student
unions will provide you with a space to post a large bill board.
Electronic video announcements are avalible on many campuses so feel
free to use our images to make promotional slide.
Keith has been
interviewed on radio, TV and for many newspapers, and magazines. Please
arrange interviews with your local media, college newspapers and campus
radio stations to promote the presentation. Send or hand deliver your
