THE STRESS POSITION CAGE - San Francisco, California 1993 -1994

Food Not Bombs cofounder Keith McHenry was picked up by plain clothes police three times while driving home after work. Once in 1993 and twice in 1994. Police ripped his clothes from his body, was lifted by his arms and legs until his ligaments and tendons were torn. As he was being smashed to the concrete floor at the police intelligence office at 850 Bryant Street in San Francisco other officers kicked him. After a while they lifted him into a stress position cage hanging from the ceiling where he was not able to stretch out his legs. He sat in the cage for three days until the police pulled him down and pushed him out the front door of the police headquarters handing him his pants.
