end the criminalization of poverty. Invite your classmates to
participate in the occupations and global protest movement against
austerity!
Inspire social change in your community. Arrange a presentation with Food Not Bombs
co-founder Keith McHenry
The Elect to End Hunger and Poverty presentation talks about the
campaign to end the criminalization of poverty and how you can
participate in the global protest movement against austerity! Food Not
Bombs co-founder Keith McHenry will share the details of the history,
principles and current activities of the movement including his work
helping set up kitchens at the occupations. Keith will also invite the
audience to participate with their local activist groups.
Most people would elect to end hunger and poverty but many of the people
running for office have another agenda, cutting social services while
transferring our tax dollars to wealthy military contractors and their
corporate friends. While elected officials cut social services like
unemployment insurance, food stamps, education, health care and other
basic necessities they are also passing laws against the poor and their
supporters.
Food Not Bombs is responding to this crisis by recovering, preparing and
sharing vegan meals and groceries with the hungry in nearly 1,000
communities. This presentation will inspire you and your friends to join
the Food Not Bombs movement and help our dedicated volunteers organize,
implement and feed the global campaign to end hunger and poverty. You
can make a difference!
Food Not Bombs started in 1980 when
eight college aged activists dressed as generals and started holding
bake sales pretending to buy a bomber. Thirty years later Food Not Bombs
continues to encourage the redirection of our resources from the
military towards human needs living and cooking at Occupy Wall Street, Occupy DC and many other occupations.
Call 1-800-884-1136 today and schedule a
45 minute presentation about the history, principles and Food Not Bombs
work with the occupations plus show the 15 minute video about Food Not Bombs in Africa. Keith will also
have copies of his new book HUNGRY FOR
PEACE available at each presentation.
Ask student groups on your campus to
consider hosting this inspiring presentation. Student groups working for
human and animal rights, the environment like the Progressive Student
Alliance, Amnesty International, The National Lawyers Guild, Campus
Progress, Student PIRG, SDS, vegan and vegetarian associations, campus
groups working to end hunger and poverty and Oxfam have all sponsored
this important presenation. These student groups can request funding for an honorarium which is
donated to Food Not Bombs. It is important to request the speaker fee

Young Republicans and Tea Party clubs take all of the studnet activity

"Hi Keith, I was lucky enough to get to hear you speak at
Brandeis tonight. I had to leave before the end so I wasn't able to
thank you in person, but I just wanted to say that your story (and the
Food Not Bombs story) was incredibly touching and inspiring. I am one of
many extremely jaded American college students, but it gives me hope
that there are people like you in the world, trying to fix the broken,
diseased system."

That McHenry guy sounds like such a sweet person. He was sooo
excited to be on your show and not embarrassed to express his happiness.
And all the stuff those people do.......man, takes guts and persistence.
"The Diggers' philosophy influenced the thinking of a
young man named Keith McHenry, who would go on to become one of the most
important figures in the freegan movement. McHenry, who is now 53, came
from a family with a prestigious pedigree; his ancestor, James McHenry,
was one of the signers of the Constitution.

McHenry's 30 years of community organizing.
The presentation describes how the all volunteer global movement
Food Not Bombs was started by eight college age youth in 1980. Thirty
years later Food Not Bombs is responding to the global economic crisis
by sharing vegetarian meals in over 1,000 communities, planting Food Not
Lawns community gardens, housing the homeless in abandoned building with
Homes Not Jails, organizing Really Really Free Markets and taking
nonviolent direct action. The Elect to End Hunger and Poverty Tour
includes a presentation about the history, principles and the current
actions of Food Not Bombs taking place around the world. Learn why Food
Not Bombs has no formal leaders and is able to be so effective because
of its decentralized autonomous structure. The presentation also
explores the principles of nonviolence, how decisions are made by
consensus, that why the meals are always vegetarian and vegan and free
to anyone who wants them without restriction. The presentation ends with
a 15 minute video about Food Not Bombs in Africa. We also offer
presentations on the roll of Amnesty International, The National Lawyers
Guild and many other groups that have worked to defend Food Not Bombs,
history and current actions to defend the environment, work for peace
and social justice, the liberation of animals, workshops on nonviolence,
a presentation about domestic spying in the U.S., and our work to end
hunger and poverty. Your classmates and community members will be
inspired to join your student group after they attend this exciting
presentation. Ask your student senate to fund this valuable experience.
Colleges have provided Food Not Bombs with honorariums from $500 to
several thousand dollars. The presentations are always free to Food Not
Bombs groups. Talk with the other student organizations on your campus
and ask them to help host one of these valuable presentations.
Please consider inviting Mr. McHenry to speak to your
community. Speaking fees are reasonable and donated to Food Not Bombs.
Your community will find Keith's message hopeful, motivating and
full of useful information sure to be an inspiration to everyone. If you
don't have a local Food Not Bombs group in your community you will
after Keith's presentation. If you want to increase the activities
of your local chapter the presentation is a great way to get more
volunteers.
